Politics of Justice #11: Behind Ransomed | Chapters 5 - 8

In this episode of Politics of Justice, I recap and discuss chapters 3 and 4 of Ransomed.

Ransomed is currently available on all platforms and in audiobook.
This series uses the book as a springboard to talk about justice, race, family, and the systems that fail us—and the ones we fight to change.

In this episode of Politics of Justice, I discuss Chapters 5 through 8 of Ransomed, the second book in the Casey Cort legal thriller series.

These chapters deepen the conflict and begin to reveal the imbalance of power at the center of the story. What initially appears procedural starts to feel personal, and the consequences of authority—especially unchecked authority—become harder to ignore.

Like many of the novels in this series, Ransomed was shaped in part by real events, including the federal case United States v. David W. Lanier, which exposed how a Tennessee judge used the authority of his position to abuse women who appeared before him.

In this video, I reflect on:
• How the early investigation begins to shift in tone
• The role of institutional power in shaping silence
• The legal and emotional stakes emerging in Chapters 5–8
• Why these middle chapters matter for the trajectory of the case

The Politics of Justice series examines how real legal failures influence fiction—and what those stories reveal about trust, accountability, and the limits of the justice system.

Ransomed is Book 2 in the Casey Cort series.
